Last updated: March 2025  |  Effective immediately upon use
The short version: Chatterly is designed to minimise the data we hold about you. We collect what's necessary to operate the service safely and legally. We don't sell your data. We don't run ads. Sessions auto-expire. Read on for the full picture.

01 Who We Are

Chatterly ("we", "us", "our") is an anonymous real-time chat platform. By using Chatterly you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

We do not collect: real names, email addresses, phone numbers, payment information, or device fingerprints. We do not use tracking pixels, advertising SDKs, or third-party analytics.

03 Cookies

Chatterly uses a single session cookie (PHPSESSID or equivalent) to maintain your login state while the browser tab is open. This cookie contains a random session token only — no personal information. It expires when you close your browser or log out.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or any cookies from third parties.

04 How We Use Your Data

Data is used exclusively for the following purposes:

Service operation — displaying your nickname and profile in the lobby and chat windows, routing messages to the correct recipient.

Security and abuse prevention — rate limiting to prevent spam, IP logging to identify and block abusive users.

Legal compliance — retaining records necessary to respond to valid legal requests from law enforcement. See our Law Enforcement Policy.

We do not sell, rent, share, or monetise your data in any way.

05 Data Sharing

We do not share your personal data with third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

Law enforcement: We will disclose data in response to a valid legal order (court order, subpoena, or equivalent). See our Law Enforcement Policy.

Emergency situations: Where we have a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to prevent imminent harm to a person, we may share relevant information with appropriate authorities without a formal legal request.

Service providers: Our hosting infrastructure providers have access to server data in the ordinary course of operating the service. They are bound by their own privacy policies and applicable data protection law.

06 Data Retention & Deletion

Session data (nickname, age, gender, country, session ID) is automatically deleted after 5 minutes of inactivity. Messages are deleted when your session ends.

You can request deletion of any data associated with your IP address by contacting us. We will process requests within 30 days subject to any legal retention obligations.

07 Security

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including rate limiting, session token randomisation, and access controls on the admin panel. However, no internet service is perfectly secure. Use Chatterly at your own risk and do not share sensitive personal information in chats.

08 Children

Chatterly is strictly for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will immediately terminate their session and delete associated data. If you believe a minor is using the service, please report it.

09 Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because Chatterly does not link accounts to email addresses, the primary identifier for data requests is your IP address. To make a request, contact us with your IP address, approximate time of use, and the action requested.

Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) may have additional rights under the GDPR including the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

10 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of Chatterly after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
